Walking as Ontological Shifter > Looking for Bears, June 2017

In Looking for Bears (Americas Society, 2017) I was commissioned to engage the institution’s concurrent exhibition by Mexican artist Erick MeyerbergThe Wheel Bears no Resemblance to a Leg.
I played with the title of that show to engage the institution's nested site within the natural ecologies of Central Park and designed a participatory outdoors intervention focused on expanding participants' sensibilities and interpretive capacities through embodiment, texts and multiple agencies.
Deepening our perceptual capacities of time and place, we nurtured our imaginations as we walked deliberately along the landscape. Via a mix of invitations aimed towards a continued sense of embodiment and grounding awareness, we read, wrote, and shared. We played and calculated the angle at which our hopes met in their fullest form with performativity.

Specifically, we collectively engaged 2 cypress trees and read out loud the poem by Indigenous poet and novelist Ray A. Young Bear (Meskwaki) Our Bird Aegis
